Unlock the Grid Capacity Your Site Needs
Private HV/LV substations, capacity reviews and DNO/IDNO connections that remove the connection bottleneck — so EV fleets, battery storage, CHP and expansion plans aren't blocked by an undersized supply.
What You Need to Know
Ambitious electrification plans frequently hit the same wall: the grid connection. An EV fleet, a large battery, additional production lines or a CHP export all need capacity the original connection was never sized for — and a standard DNO reinforcement can be slow and expensive.
A private micro-substation gives you that headroom on your own terms. Skyline reviews your existing capacity, designs the right HV/LV solution, and manages the DNO or IDNO connection end to end — including transformer sizing, switchgear, protection and metering — so your wider energy strategy isn't held back by the supply.

Capacity, before and after
When your existing connection is nearly full, new electric load gets blocked. A private substation raises the ceiling and unlocks the headroom your plans need.

Why It Matters
Grid capacity is the single most common blocker to onsite energy projects — and the one most often discovered too late.
Capacity blocks expansion
New lines, processes or buildings stall because the existing Maximum Import Capacity simply can't support the additional load.
EV and BESS won't connect
Fleet charging hubs and large batteries are routinely refused or heavily curtailed because there's no spare capacity at the connection point.
Costly, slow DNO upgrades
Standard network reinforcement can carry long lead times and significant cost, with little control over the programme.
Ageing switchgear
Older HV switchgear and transformers become a reliability and safety risk, and a constraint on any new connected load.

Our Delivery Process
We treat the connection as an enabler for your wider strategy, not a standalone job. The process starts with a hard look at what capacity you really have and need.
Capacity review
We assess your current MIC/MEC against present and planned demand, identifying exactly how much additional headroom your strategy requires.
Connection strategy
We define the optimal route — DNO reinforcement, an Independent DNO (IDNO) connection, or a private substation — and the HV/LV topology to suit.
Design & protection
We design the substation: transformer sizing, switchgear, protection, earthing and metering, fully compliant with DNO and G99 requirements.
Install & energise
We manage procurement, civils, installation, witness testing and energisation, then hand over a connection ready for your batteries, chargers or plant.
What we need from you
A capacity review is only as good as its inputs. The following help us size the connection accurately the first time.
- Your current Maximum Import (and any Export) Capacity from your bills or DNO agreement
- Details of your existing connection and DNO, including any single-line diagram
- Your planned new loads — EV charging, battery storage, CHP, new production
- A site plan showing available space and access for plant and civils
- Any known constraints, outage windows or operational uptime requirements
